Banchan Story was created in 2015 by Shin Kim to bring fun Korean culinary experiences that combine cultural stories and tasty dishes of Korea to New York. In addition to producing exciting culinary events and working alongside masters of Korean cuisine, over the years, we have expanded into catering services that require intricate designs and flavors of all types. Whether we're catering customized bites for your special occasion or hosting a culinary workshop, we believe each little dish (called 'banchan' in Korean) requires meticulous attention to detail and deserves its own little spotlight.
Shin Kim (김신정) completed her business education at the University of Chicago MBA Program and her culinary training at the Institute of Culinary Education, and subsequently refined her craft at some of New York's finest Michelin-starred restaurants, including Jean Georges, Gilt, and Adour by Alain Ducasse, and premier catering establishments such as Abigail Kirsch.
In addition, Shin studied Korean temple cuisine under the Buddhist nun Jeong Kwan at Chunjinam hermitage in Jeolla Province, and also at Balwoo (발우공양), Korean temple cuisine restaurant in Seoul, Korea. Shin was invited to teach Korean cooking classes in select institutions such as the Natural Gourmet Institute, Korea Society, Haven's Kitchen, and Whole Foods Culinary Center and wrote articles for CNN Travel, Yonhap News Agency, and Hankook Ilbo.
Together with our team of passionate food enthusiasts, we look forward to sharing our delicious culinary experiences with you!
